My Trip to India
Mental Health
In the following video, I get the pleasure of interviewing Ayurvedic Dr. Noor Fathima. Dr. Fathima is spiritual individual led by holistic ideals. In this interview, I get to ask her about Ayurveda and how it deals with mental health. Compared to the western way of medicine, eastern techniques take a hold of personalizing medicine according to the patient. Instead of ‘one shoe fits all’ Ayurveda techniques approach a more personal assess. Dr. Fathima explains that everyone is different and may require a different approach. Although she does not deal with kids with disabilities, she tries to help her patients as much as she can. Apart from her graceful demeanor, Dr. Fathima speaks of her specialty as a gift. Not only does she take each case as if it were herself in the shoes of the patient but goes beyond of what a regular doctor may do. She emphasizes the power of words and how something so small such as a sentence, can leave a long-lasting impact. In fact, she stated that words of affirmations are part of getting her patients to trust her. She has dealt with several suicidal cases; moreover, one that she struggled with. Dr. Fathima speaks about helping a young girl, ironically my age and her journey in helping her recover. The patient needed consistent work and even her family had to get counseling. It is all about “taking their hand in your hand and telling them everything will be ok’”. Dr. Fathima states “everything will come to you as long as you project that energy”. She is a heavy believer in aura, energy, and vibrations. Because of Dr. Fathima, I am left educated and encouraged by such a powerful woman.
